Despite the bad language, and sometimes angry way of speaking out, Hip Hop has always been a form of music that has something to say. It’s very expressive and often obscene, but Hip Hop always proves its point in the message each song sends. The following is a list of some of the more controversial Hip Hop artists over the years.

1. NWA. NWA was a groundbreaking band that pushed the boundaries of Hip Hop music more than any hip hop band ever had at the time. They are most known for the urban anthem against bad cops called “F^%k The Police.”

2. 2 Live Crew. If you’ve ever heard a song by these guys, you’d never forget it. This band of Hip Hop rebels were banned from playing most places because of their extremely explicit, sexually charged lyrics that were very misogynistic, to put it mildly. They had a minor hit with the song “Me So Horny” back in the early 90′s.

3. Eminem. A relative newcomer, Eminem uses stories from his own life to create his controversial hits. He touches on subjects from his own demons with drugs, to why he just can’t get along with him mom, or his baby’s mama. His songs are often vulgar, but Eminem always sends a message.

4. Public Enemy. Public Enemy was one of the first hip hop bands to bring to light the subject of police brutality and the unfairness of racial profiling. Public Enemy songs always addressed social issues in them are fighting words sort of way.

5. Little Kim. Little Kim was the first of her kind. When she came to the Hip Hop scene, it was a scene that was dominated by men. Kim may be little, but her mouth was big and full of foul words and she could easily hold her own in the vulgarity department against any man in the hip hop world.
